Gau Seva

In scriptures it is written, “Gaavo Vishwasya Matara” (गावो विश्वस्य मातरः) which means Cow is the Mother of whole universe. Therefore, it is the duty of everyone to serve and protect the Mother Cow. Cows are important to the human beings from both spiritual and economical perspective. Milk, cow dung and cow urine produced by Mother Cow has both spiritual and economical importance. Lot of research has been done by the western world scientists on the A1 milk (produced by hybrid or Jersey cows ) and A2 milk ( produced by Indian Desi Cows ). Scientists have concluded that A2 milk is the healthier option compared to A1 milk. Cow dung can be used for Bio-gas and the residual after the bio-gas is manufactured can be used for organic farming. Use of cow dungs for the fertiliser will reduce the usage of fertilisers which are very harmful for human health. There is a big demand for organic food in the market by health conscious people. Cow dung and urine are used in many Ayurvedic medicines too.
All the Vedic scriptures glorify the Mother Cow and service and protection rendered to Her.In Mahabharata, Anushashana Parva 145, it is stated “Cow is the personification of Motherly energy. The day when there will be no more cows left in this world, it will be bereft of a mother and thus no other living entities will survive”.

In Mahabharata ( shanti parva 262.47) it is stated that “The very name of the cows is aghnya, indicating that they should never be slaughtered. Who then could slay them ? Surely, one who kills the cow or a bull, commits the most heinous crime.”

The Rig Veda (8.101.15) states : “ The mother of the cosmic powers , the daughter of the beings of light, the sister of the sun gods, the navel center of truth . I speak to those who are aware: do not harm the cow, for, in so doing , you harm the earth and all of humanity.”
Vishnu Purana 1.19.65 says

namo brahmanya-devaya go-brahmana-hitaya ca jagad-dhitaya krishnaya govindaya namo namah
“My Lord, You are the well-wisher of the cows and the brahmanas, and You are the well-wisher of the entire human society and the world.”

In the Srimad-Bhagavatam 3.16.10, Lord Krsna Himself states, “The brahmanas, the cows, and the defenseless creatures are My own body.”
In the Brihat Parasara-smriti, it is written:
“Simply by eating grass, the cows give us milk. From milk, ghee is produced by which demigods become satisfied. So how can one neglect the cow ? Simply by her association, a person becomes purified. By serving her, one achieves unlimited wealth, and by donating cows, one can transfer himself to heaven. There is no wealth superior to the cow. All the demigods reside in different parts of her body. By serving the cow with devotion, Lord Hari becomes pleased. Her milk nourishes human beings. How can such a cow not be worshipable.”

According to the Gavopanisad:
“One should see, offer obeisances to, and circumambulate the cow. By doing so, one is supposed to have circumambulated the entire earth with its seven islands. The cow is the mother of all. She gives happiness to everyone. People who desire prosperity should daily circumambulate the cow.”

In the Mahabharata it is mentioned:
“Oh Bharata, nothing is rare for a devotee of the cow. Whatever such devotees desire, they achieve. A lady who is devoted to the cow can have her desires fulfilled by the cow’s mercy. One who desires a son or a daughter, who desires wealth, one who desires piety, or knowledge — all can get their desires fulfilled by the mercy of the cow.”

Malook Peethadheeeswar Sri Jagad Guru Dawaracharya Swami Rajendra Dasji Maharaj has established the Shri Brij Kamad Surabhi Van evam Shodh Sansthan (Jadkhor Godham) in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. The places chosen by Sri Mahraj ji for Jadkhor Godham is the same place where the Bhagwaan Sri Krishna with His brother, Lord Balram, and other friends (Gopals) used to go for herding the Cows (Gocharan). Also, Bhagwaan Sri Krishna took the oath on the stones at this same place that He will never go away from Braj. More than 9000 cows are currently living in safe and comfortable environment in Jadkhor Godham. Most of these cows are old and have been rescued from butchers and slaughterhouse. Gurudev Maharaj recommends Serving and Protection of the Mother Cow in His every katha. Also, there are plans for opening a Cow Hospital which will treat Cows suffering from different diseases or health issues.
